What information will I need

Websites, like most things, rarely sell themselves. When you're selling a website you have to be prepared because potential buyers are only going to give you a few moments to convince them your site is worth looking into.

Let's take for instance real estate. If you're a potential home buyer and you're walking around looking at houses and you ask your realator things like: how many bedrooms is this house, does it have lake privilages, is there a basement, and the realotor has no clue you most likely won't buy the house. That is why you need all of your information at hand and ready to provide to your potential website buyer.

Asking Price

Lots of people like to put things like "Best Offer" or just leave the asking price empty. This is an awful idea. I have NEVER sold a website without putting an asking price. So if you are serious about selling your site you must include this.

Website Statistics

These are things you absolutely need:

  1. Unique visitors per month for the last year
  2. Number of Pageviews per month for the last year
  3. Rankings for specific keywords your site is targeting
  4. The Google PageRank

Revenue and Costs

Buyers are going to want details on how much the website costs to maintain and how much the website makes. You should provide a detailed breakdown of all the revenue the website gets and where it gets it from (e.g. ads, memberships, sales) and a breakdown of all the costs (e.g. hosting, domain names, advertising).

How to present it

To make myself look professional when I'm selling a site I usually put together an email in the form of a report including all the the information I've talked about. Sometimes I include screenshots of all my stats to give it a little more credibility. Also a short description of the purpose of the website and why you are selling it doesn't hurt.
